What to Expect

Our Sunday worship gatherings in College Park are spaces we’ve created for seeking and encountering God and being spiritually formed as a community. We gather to experience God’s grace, to exalt Christ, and to make His praise great. We also share our lives and bring them before Christ, and are re-sent into the world as agents of His love.

In Church on any Sunday, you can expect to find an unpolished attempt by different people to experiment with new and old ways to help each other encounter God and worship Him. When we meet, we love to listen to each other’s experiences from the past week and lift up prayers for those in need. We love to receive wisdom from God’s Word and share in times of discussion. You’ll find diversity of opinion on theological issues in our community, and you’ll find that we welcome that diversity. On some Sundays, you might find that we’re also discussing and making plans for our church, and dreaming about what kind of church we want to be. We love to sing songs of worship to God and pray and meditate on Him. You can expect to participate in the new and ancient liturgies of the Church, which often include gathering around the table of Christ and receiving the gifts of bread and wine that believers have been sharing to taste the reality of God’s grace since the first followers of Jesus.

We are excited by the richness of over 2000 years of Christian experience and are beginning to explore the ancient traditions of the church, renewing creeds and liturgies while at the same time creating contemporary expressions of faith. We want to stretch ourselves to worship with diverse styles, since God transcends culture and history. We want to be quiet and listen and be joyful and celebrate. We want to use music and other arts to express ourselves to God, just as the Psalms in the Old Testament scriptures do: to praise, to thank, to ask for what we need, to confess, to complain, to lament. We glorify God as we express ourselves honestly before Him and make His reality more apparent through creative worship.

Whatever is happening on a particular Sunday, you can expect to be among sinners seeking to follow God, and you can expect to be in a safe place to give and receive God’s love. Our community exists wherever and whenever the people of our church find themselves, and our faith is not limited to what we do in our meeting space but is expressed throughout our lives.
